Тем не менее, в период с 2008/09 по 2017/18 гг. число иностранных студентов из стран, не входящих в ЕС, выросло на 33%, причем на долю китайцев приходится 38% всех аспирантов – выходцев из стран, не входящих в ЕС.

В отчёте Higher Education Policy Institute говорится, что в 2014-2015 учебном году в британских университетах обучалось чуть менее 50 000 аспирантов из Китая, а к 2018 году этот показатель вырос до 60 460, что на 21% больше.

Согласно данным, собранным QS Quacquarelli Symonds, аналитическим центром высшего образования, который составляет QS World University Rankings, 72% иностранных абитуриентов планируют начать своё обучение в Великобритании в этом учебном году, даже если обучение будет виртуальным, с применением онлайн-доступа. Родителей также интересуют карантинные меры при возвращении учащихся из других стран. Начиная с 8 июня 2020 года по прибытию в Великобританию каждому будет необходимо пройти двухнедельный карантин, также это правило касается всех иностранных студентов.
